Hennessy Cleaning Tournament
Saturday last saw us take part in the annual Hennessy Cleaning Tournament. Held at Ferrybank AFC due to the unavailability of the Clover grounds, an excellent day’s football from some of the youngest members of the club ended in victory for the third year in a row. Following group wins over De la Salle B and Bohemians A we faced De la Salle A in the quarter finals. A game of very few chances for both sides ended 0 – 0 at full time and penalties were needed to decide who advanced to the semi final. Two well taken penalties from Tadgh Brennan and Craig Dunphy and two excellent saves from Kieran Doheny saw us through. Tramore were our opponents in the semi final and we played some great football in the first half with Corey Gallagher scoring two and Warren Sauvage adding a third. We failed to add to our score in the second half and Tramore pulled one back and this was to be the only goal we conceded in the tournament. The final saw us up against Carrick. This was a match where we created some good chances throughout and defended very well in the second half. An excellent shot from Corey Gallagher decided it and gave us a hat trick of wins in this tournament.
Thanks to all managers and parents for their help on the day and to the organisers and Ferrybank AFC for an excellent days football.
It was inevitable that many thoughts on Saturday were of the man who managed many wins in the past at this event – Frank would have been pleased.
Well done to the squad of 2008: Kieran Doheny, Tadgh Brennan, Corey Gallagher, David Walsh, Dylan Breslin, Warren Sauvage, Craig Dunphy (capt), Jack Nugent, Josh Byavu, Sam Powell.
Under 15 Cup Final Villa A 0 Bohs 1
After a number of false starts, the Under 15 Cup final was finally played at the RSC on Saturday. We started brightly and Jack Gaule had the ball in the net only to see the flag up for offside. The game saw few chances created by either side and we have to be disappointed with the goal we conceded to lose the game mid-way through the second half.
Under 14A League Champions
The Under 14A team were finally crowned league champions last week. Congratulations to the entire squad and to Liam Butler, Freddie Robinson and Nicky Denn on guiding the team to the title.
Eamonn O’Mahoney
The club extends its best wishes to Mr. Eamonn O’Mahoney who retired as principal of St. Declans NS last week. Eamonn was always of assistance to the club when required and we wish him a long and happy retirement.
Adam Potter
Adam has been called back on Saturday to the final trial for the Irish team to play at the Galway Cup tournament in August. We wish Adam the very best.
Owen Tubbritt
This Saturday sees the wedding of Under 15 coach Owen Tubbritt to Carmel Jacob. Owen has given the club many years dedicated service (so many that Tubby’s Tots are all over 21!) and like any good coach has fitted the wedding and honeymoon in during the closed season. We wish both Owen and Carmel a fantastic wedding day and a very happy future together.
Awards Night
Our Annual Awards night will take place on Friday in the Woodlands Hotel starting at 7.15pm. All players should have been notified at this stage.
Summer Camp
The summer camp takes place next week. Please note the venue has changed and the camp will take place in Waterpark Rugby Club. This is due to repair work being carried out on the Connors Park pitch. Any last minute applications for the camp can call Neil Kelly on 087-2337112.
And Finally....... Sonny Nolan Tournament
Weather permitting the last action of the season will take place in Tramore on Saturday with the Sonny Nolan tournament. This is always well worth a visit so please support our teams.
