U13A League Bohs 0 Villa 1
A top of the table clash was held in Ben Wadding Park last Thursday night and we knew if we won this game the title was ours. Bohs certainly brought the game to us and the game started at a very fast tempo. We scored a goal with a Kenneth McEvoy free kick but the referee deemed same to be offside. We continued on and played some good passing football and our Captain David Cooley scored a fitting goal which ended up being the only goal in the game which won us the league. Again after a long season, some of our players looked tired on the park but across the full pitch we worked hard. Chances were few enough for both teams as the battle was constantly trying to cancel each other out. This win gave the U13 team the double for the 2nd year in a row, having beaten Tramore in the RSC the previous Saturday. By any teams standards, that is a fair achievement. Well done to all the players, Managers Larry O Donovan, Eddie Widger and Ken McEvoy Snr. Also thanks to all the parents for their help throughout the year. Team : Brandon O Callaghan, Christian Cullen, Jamie Cross, Tom Mullaly, Walter Dunphy, Austin Sheahan, Kenneth McEvoy, Conor Coad, Gavin O Donovan, David Cooley (Capt), Daniel Ahearn, Walter Croke, Mark Walsh, Niall McCabe, Evan O Donnell.
U14A Cup Semi Final Tramore 2 Villa 2 (Villa won 4-3 on pens)
A tough game in Tramore last Tuesday evening in the cup semi final. A perfect evening for football and Tramore really were up for it. We went one nil up our goal coming from Kevin Flynn who has been on the scoring sheet all season. Tramore came back into the game and before we knew it, we were 2 1 down at half time. We did put the pressure on at times and eventually we equalised with a goal from Jonathan McEvoy. Probably a fair result which had to be decided by penalties. Our scorers were Adam Potter, Jonathan McEvoy, Aaron Galibert and Jamie Cross. 2 fantastic saves from the hero Marc Weldon denied Tramore twice and we progressed to the final on Saturday.
U14A Cup Final Villa 2 Southend 3
A great game of football between the top 2 sides in the U14 league was had out in the RSC on Saturday morning. After the tough game on Tuesday, our boys looked tired across the park but did put in a good performance in the first half, having to contain a very strong Southend side. Kevin Flynn got the first goal after a great run up the middle by Barry Power who gave the ball out wide to Jonathan McEvoy who found Flynn in a great position in front of goal and he finished with a fine touch. We went in 1 nil up at half time and Conor Coad got our second with a fine header from a corner kick taken well by Eoin Kindlon. We were well on top at this stage and to say we had chance after chance is an understatement. Southend were dogged in their attitude and we got complacent and sloppy in defence and one by one they slotted in 2 goals. With about 3 minutes left on the clock, they scored the winner and we could only then dwell on the missed chances and poor defending. A big lesson learned by all and if we get another chance in a cup final, we have to rise to the occasion and play football for the entire game not just half of it. Well done to Southend.
