U11A League
Ferrybank 2 Villa 5

Our U11A team maintained their challenge for league honours with a well merited 5-2 win away to Ferrybank. We put in one of our best displays of the season with all 14 squad members contributing. We made a whirlwind start going 3 goals up within the first 10 mins through Ryan Phillips (2) and Aaron O' Connor. The passing and movement for our 3rd goal was a pleasure to watch. Our 3 man midfield of Adam Doyle, David Hobbs and Tommy Power dominated this sector. Brian Cunningham created havoc all through the game and his constant harassment of the Ferrybank defence upset their rhythm. Ferrybank could not cope with the pace of Aaron O' Connor and Ryan Phillips up front. The only poor point from the first half was allowing Ferrybank to score from a short corner. In the second half playing against the elements our defence stood tall and a huge effort from Roy Butler, Greg Milne, Craig Brown, Dylan McGuire and Darragh Collopy restricted Ferrybank to just 1 further goal. At the other end of the pitch Aaron O' Connor scored from 18 yards with a well taken shot and Ryan Phillips completed his hat trick with a fine individual effort. Overall a fine team effort and our lads rebounded well after losing to the same opposition in our last game. We need to continue the effort shown in this game in our remaining cup and league games.

U13A League
Villa 4 Tramore 1

The scoreline does not reflect the closeness of this hard fought win. Tramore have a very good side, well coached and disciplined and it was a very hard fought victory. The game was played on St Otterans pitch due to a backlog of fixtures now being played. The pitch was in good condition and we started playing with the advantage of the hill for the first half. Our front runners Walter Croke and Mark Walsh worked hard and played some very good football against a big physical defence and caused problems by taking up good positions and playing quick one / two passes with our midfield. Danny Ahearne on the left wing twice cut inside and was unlucky not to open the scoring before he had to go off ill. Gavin O'Donovan worked hard in midfield covering a lot of ground and Kenneth McEvoy used all the space to attack down the left wing and from one of his runs Conor Coad opened the scoring with a fine header into roof of the net. Tramore with Robbie Burke, Stephen Coffey and Dave King threatened to score an equaliser but as usual Brandon O'Callaghan was up to the task making a brilliant save from their centre forward. Austin Gleeson marked the 2 strikers and Jamie Cross showed just why he is in the Kennedy cup squad with a great display of tackling /covering. Walter Dunphy linked well with the midfield and was unlucky not to score himself 10 mins from half time after a great interplay with Conor Coad. Conor Coad scored a great individual goal with a cracking shot from outside the box which nestled in the top corner giving the keeper no chance. Half time 2-nil. Walter Dunphy retired injured and Conor Sheahan slotted into full back, in no time he was tackling and moving the ball forward at great ease to our front runners. He was fouled just outside the Tramore box and Conor Coad stepped up to hit a thumping shot into the net off the under side of the crossbar , his hat-trick! We need to keep up our momentum and face Seaview out in Annestown on Monday evening which will no doubt be a tough task.

U14A League
Villa 2 Southend 1

A very hard fought game on a blustery morning against a strong and good Southend side. The visitors started the better and we had to work extremely hard to contain them for the first 15 minutes of the match. Against the run of play Conor Coad latched onto a loose clearance from the Southend defence and let rip from 25 yards into the far top corner to give us a one nil lead. This settled us and we started to play with more confidence and created chances with shots from Kevin Flynn and Jonathan McEvoy but the score line remained one nil at halftime. We continued into the second half tackling hard and creating some fine football and after Conor Coad was taken down in the penalty box, captain Adam Potter stepped up and eased the ball past the Southend keeper. We were well on top and could have added another couple and felt the three points were safe, but how a game can turn! Southend were awarded a penalty and converted same with 2 mintues to go. They then pulled out all the stops and had a fine chance with the last kick of the game which went over the bar. Some fine performances on the day from Adam Potter who was outstanding in defence once more, Jamie Cross, Eoin Kindlon, Conor Coad and Kevin Flynn who worked tirelessly up front, but a real lesson in how we need to keep our concentration for the full game.

Premier Cup Villa 3 Johnville 1

We made the perfect start in this game with Conor McDonald firing home within the first five minutes. Danny Walsh made it 2-0 before the break and Danny scored a second in the second half before Johnville scored a late consolation. Next round at home to Tramore on Sunday at 11am.

Under 16B Cup Semi Final Piltown 3 Villa B 2 (AET)

We went 2-0 down early on in this game and looked to be on the way to a big defeat. However, we fought hard for the remainder of the half and our reward came through Robbie Lannon just before the break. We had a number of second half chances but had to wait until injury time to level through Andrew Baxter. It was Piltown who took their chance in extra time to go through 3-2. We wish them well in the final.

Under 15 League Crusaders 0 Villa B 3

We started the game under some pressure and it was five minutes before the break that we went ahead courtesy of a Mark Hobbs penalty. Gracious Byavu scored the second, 10 minutes into the second half and Kenny Patterson made the game safe with our third. Good performances from Robbie Lannon and Paul Mates in midfield and Dean Butler in defence with two goal line clearances.

Under 16A League
Hibs 2 Villa 1

Disappointing result in the U16A League, our only goal coming direct from an Aaron Molloy corner.

Adam Potter
Well done to Adam on his recent recall for the Irish U15 International Squad. This is well deserved as he has had an outstanding season so far and we wish him well.

Speedy recovery
We wish our U11A player, Craig Browne a speedy recovery after he suffered a serious injury in the local Danone Cup Qualifiers. A special word of thanks to Declan Lonergan and Grainne Grogan who aided in Craig’s recovery and also thanks to Carrick for their sporting gesture to replay the semi final after the game had to be abandoned.
