Premier League Villa 0 Southend 2, Dungarvan 1 Villa 1

We ended our league campaign with a home defeat to Southend on Wednesday followed by a draw in Dungarvan on Sunday. Two second half goals did the damage against Southend after we had the better of the first half. Against Dungarvan Declan Woodgate gave us the lead but a penalty three minutes from the end levelled for the home side. Attention now goes to the cup and a home game against Johnville on Saturday at 7pm.

U13A League Villa 4 Ferrybank 2

Our first league game since Dec 15th and we faced a well organised, well trained Ferrybank side. We started without some of our regulars but the squad has great depth .Walter Dunphy returned to right full and played excellently until he retired injured in the 2nd half. The opening 15 mins were very even, with the Ferrybank Keeper making 2 good saves but a good move involving Christian Cullen, and Kenneth McEvoy ended with Walter Croke scoring a real poacher’s goal, the first of his hat-trick. His second came after brave work from Danny Aherne, however we allowed Ferrybank back into game just before half-time. A great save from Brandon O'Callaghan kept us ahead and then after great work between Austin Gleeson and Jamie Cross we broke and Walter scored his third. Ferrybank never gave up and put us under pressure .Mark Walsh moved to right back and Niall McCabe came on up front and was unlucky not to score with his first touch. Conor Coad scored from a free kick just outside the box but Ferry bank came up the field and some sloppy defending let them in to score. We played well for the last 5 mins .Man of match to Walter Croke for his hat-trick, well deserved 3 great finishes, and special mention of Mark Walsh who played in 3 different positions. Also we all wish our Captain David Cooley a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in a few weeks.

U-13A Cup Villa 1 Bohs 1 ( Villa won 4-2 on pens)

Following the Ferrybank game we were back in action in the Cup against local rivals Bohs. As always these games are very close and with both clubs having players in the Kennedy Cup squad it was always going to be very competitive. We lined out with Mark Walsh and Walter Croke our 2 best players from Ferrybank game upfront against a very big Bohs defence but these 2 linked very well with the midfield of Kenneth,Conor, Gavin and Danny.
We played football from defence out with Walter Dunphy ( back after injury) Austin ,Jamie and Christian very much in control .It took us a while to create our first chance a 25 yard screamer from Conor Coad, brilliantly saved by the keeper .Some great passing and movement by all our players kept Bohs on the back foot and from a corner, well delivered by Kenneth ,Gavin O Donovan powered a header home from 6 yards. Bohs had some chances but our defence held well, 1-nil at half time .2 mins after restart we allowed Mark O'Keefe too much space and he stuck the ball in the top corner. Brandon then pulled off a super save to keep us in the game. Our players tired after 2 games in short time and although we finished the stronger we could not find the winning goal. 20 mins of extra time could not separate the teams and so the dreaded penalty shoot out took place. 5 penalty takers were Christian Cullen , Jamie Cross, Conor Coad, Austin Gleeson and the coolest man on the pitch Niall McCabe ,who calmly slotted home the final penalty to send us into the semi final against Ferrybank in 2 weeks. Well done to everyone and nice to see David Cooley at the game, he must be on the road to recovery.

Under 15A Cup Quarter Final Villa 4 Hibs 1

A Jonathan McEvoy hat-trick and another goal from Jack Kavanagh last Thursday evening in Connors Park saw the 15A team safely through to the Semi Final of the cup

Under 15B Cup Mooncoin 2 Villa B 1 (AET)

A very tight affair throughout which saw Mooncoin have the better of the early chances which brought a couple of good saves from Karl Byrne on the goal. We defended superbly, particularly Mark Hobbs and Ciaran Purcell and when the chance came to take the lead Aaron Galibert took the chance. Two minutes into added time we conceded from a corner to bring the game into extra time. A very harsh penalty award for the home side settled the game in extra time.

Under 15 League Villa B 3 Seaview 3

We took an early lead when Gracious Byavu bravely headed home. We became sloppy in our defending and went 2-1 down before Gracious scored again with an excellent lob. Early in the second half we fell behind again but in added time Aaron Galibert with a superb strike levelled the game.

Under 16B Cup Quarter Final Villa B 5 Abbeyside 1

A hat-trick from Jack Kavanagh and goals from Stephen Cleere and Bill Murphy saw us comfortably through to an away tie with Piltown in the semi final.
