U11A League
Villa A 5 Stradbally 0

Our U11A team played hosts to a very determined Stradbally team, last Sat in a top of the league clash in Connors Park. We started brightly and were passing the ball well in the first 10 mins. We had an early penalty appeal turned down and for the next 10 mins Stradbally had their best period of the game but they never threatened our goal due to some fine defending from Craig Brown, Greg Milne, Roy Butler and Stephen Doheny. For the remainder of the first half we dominated possession through the hard work of David Hobbs and Adam Doyle in midfield. An Adam Doyle shot was well saved by the Stradbally keeper and 2 minutes later a through ball from Adam found Aaron O' Connor who was taken down inside the penalty area and Tommy Power coolly slotted home the resultant penalty. The last action of the 1st half saw an Aaron O' Connor shot from outside the box come back off the crossbar. In the 2nd half we produced some of our best football of the season and we totally dominated the half. The Stradbally keeper made fine saves from Ryan Phillips and James Coad which kept Stradbally in the game. A poor clearance saw Ryan Phillips running through on goal and he was taken down in the box, again Tommy Power expertly dispatched the penalty. In the last 5 minutes we scored a further 3 goals through Aaron O' Connor (2) and Luke Power leaving the result 5-0 to the Villa. Overall a fine display from our 11A squad with everyone in the squad playing their part. We would like to thank Dave Phillips for referring the game as the nominated referee did not show up. Thanks to Dave 30 children got a game of football.

U13 SFAI Cup
Villa 1 Ringmahon Rangers 2

Villa were very unlucky to bow out of the SFAI in a great game. After the drawn game in January we all knew this was going to be a very close match .We started the game playing with the breeze.
The opening few minutes saw us attack and create some chances but we went behind to a sloppy goal from the visitors first corner. Ringmahon are a big team and are dangerous from set pieces but we failed to clear the ball and from 2 yards their centre half scored. This sparked us into action. Tom Mullally and Conor Sheehan settled down, Jamie Cross took control of defence and we started to play football. Conor Coad was unlucky not to score when he found himself unmarked in the box but headed wide. Kenneth McEvoy worked his way into a similar position but shot wide. A call on both occasions to say they had time might have allowed them time to settle before shooting. Some good interplay between David Cooley and Walter Croke resulted in a free kick on the left-hand side, Christian Cullen whipped in a great free and Gavin O'Donovan lost his marker and scored from 6 yards. We continued to press forward but could not find our second goal. Ringmahon broke quickly and Brandon O'Callaghan had to make a fine save to keep the score one -one at half time.
The second half saw us dominate, we played good passing football .We kept their main players under raps and Villa looked the more likely team to score but our luck was not in. Conor Coad hit the post and the rebound fell to the defender. Darren Finn came on for the last 14 mins, Danny Aherne moved to the wing and was showing all his skills, he broke from midfield ,skipped past 2 defenders and put in a great cross, David Cooley met the ball and everyone expected the ball to hit the net, Instead it hit the crossbar and into the keepers hands.Ringmahon Rangers responded to their lucky breaks and the centre forward made 2 good runs ,one resulting in a corner and the second saw one of our defender deflect a harmless shot onto the cross bar. 8 mins from time their winger collected a poor clearance on our end line, drifted pass two defenders and pick out an unmarked player in the box. He made no mistake finishing it past a static defence. We didn't give up but despite 2 additional minutes we could not get the ball into the danger area .The Ringmahon defence booted everything back up the field. The final whistle blew and we were out of the cup. This Villa team can be very proud of their displays in this competition , both in victory and defeat and the Managers trainers and loyal supporters are all looking forward too the next game.
