U-12 SFAI Cup
Villa 1 v 2 Tullamore
Our U-12 team made a disappointing exit from the national cup when they went down away to Tullamore. In a tight game that was there for the winning we made some silly errors that cost us dear. Against a strong wind in the first half we defended strongly and always looked dangerous on the break, particular with Tadgh Whelan and Mark Walsh on our right. The first half saw our hosts have more possession but we allowed very few chances on our goal.
In the second half we pushed forward but could not find the all important opening goal. Tullamore took the lead after 10 minutes of the second half when we failed on numerous occasions to clear a corner before the ball ended up in the net. 5 minutes later we were two down after again failing to clear a corner. Some changes were made to attempt to get back into the game; we did create some half chances but failed to convert them. However, with 5 minutes remaining Tadgh Whelan was fouled 30 yards out and Austin Glesson fired an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. We piled forward in search of the equaliser and missed some chances, with David Hobbs being very unlucky to see a shoot blocked when on route to the net. However, time ran out and so did our national cup run for this year.
Best for Villa were Austin Gleeson, Tadgh Whelan, Mark Walsh, Lee Crowley and Adam Donovan

U14 SFAI Cup
Villa 2 Clonmel Town 0
Our U14 team played hosts to Clonmel Town last Saturday morning and put in one of the performances of the year. This team has never beaten Clonmel Town in open play, only succeeding last year in the same cup on penalties. There has never been much between the sides over the past few years and it was great to see how the Villa boys have improved so much over the past year. We took the game to our visitors and put it up to them from the very start, having a couple of excellent chances, but our opening goal did not come until about the 20th minute, when David Cooley played a great forward ball for Jamie Cross who put in a lovely ball into the Clonmel box and Conor Coad found his right footed volley parried by the keeper, but Coad was on the alert and finished with the ball in the net on his second attempt.
Jonathon McEvoy scored our second with a beautifully placed shot in the top left corner giving the Clonmel keeper absolutely no chance of saving same. We kept attacking with some excellent runs down the wings from David Cooley and Kenneth McEvoy and put Clonmel under constant pressure. Aaron Galibert and Jonathan McEvoy linked up well up front and had another couple of chances which on another day could have put the scoreline even higher. Our defence stood very firm led by Adam Potter who had an outstanding game, with Gavin O Donovan, Eoin Kindlon and Jamie Cross dealing with everything the visitors threw at them. The two central midfielders of Barry Power and Conor Coad played some excellent passing football bringing the wingers more and more into the game and their tackling and work rate was second to none. Our keeper Marc Weldon did not have a whole lot to do as the 2 chances Clonmel had were shot wide of the goal, but as usual when called upon Marc was confident in his catches and kick outs.
We now face either Ballincollig or Dungloe in the last 16 next month and we will have to be on the top of our game again in order to progress further.
A special thanks to all the mothers for a lovely spread which was welcomed after the cold and wet weather during the game.

Premier League
Ferrybank 0 Villa 0

For the second year in succession we played out a scoreless draw in this fixture. The game contained few chances with Conor McDonald and Ian Cantwell coming closest for us. However, a draw was a fair result in the end.

Under 16 League
Villa B 1 De La Salle 2

We started well and fully deserved our first half lead which came from Brian McDonald's well taken goal. We conceded a sloppy goal early in the second half and it looked to be a point each until De La Salle converted a last minute penalty to claim maximum points.

Academy
