U11A League Villa 2 Carrick 0
Our U11A team finished 2007 in fine style with a well merited 2-0 win over a good Carrick team in Connors park last Saturday. We started the first half strongly and we were 1-0 up after 5 minutes from a well taken Ryan Phillips goal. We continued to dominate the first half with both Aaron O' Connor and James Coad forcing fine saves from the Carrick goalkeeper. Carrick exerted a lot of pressure in the early part of the 2nd half but our defence of Darragh Collopy, Roy Butler, Craig Brown, Greg Milne and Stephen Doheny held firm and this was the platform that we went from to win the game. Some fine passing in the middle of the field led to Roy Butler putting through Aaron O' Connor with the pass of the game and Aaron lobbed the goalkeeper with a good strike to make the score 2-0. We dominated the remainder of the game with David Hobbs and Dylan McGuire working hard in midfield. Our team worked very hard over the 60 minutes to ensure that the 3 points stayed in Connors park.
U11C League Southend 0 Villa B 10
This weekend saw the lads travel to Southend on what was a very chilly Saturday morning. We started the game very brightly and but for some fine saves by the Southend keeper could have been at least two goals to the good. The goals did come though and by half time we were 5- 0 up with goals from Dillon Griffin, Ryan OHiggins, Dylan Walsh and Luke Fitzgerald. The pick of the first half goals coming from the boot of Dylan Walsh for his second. A good ball into the box saw Dylan control with his first touch and lob the onrushing keeper with his second At halftime five substitutions were made in all areas of the pitch and those who came on took up from where the lads in the first half left off. Aiden in goal was a spectator for most of the half and this was mainly due to the defence who again snuffed out any danger before it could develop. By full time we were 10 – 0 up with goals from Hayden Gallibert, Callum ONiell, Robert Ryan And Kaylem Ryan Overall this was a very good performance in all areas of the pitch and the lads can go into the Christmas break with confidence for the new year.
Goal Scorers : Hayden Gallibert (2), Dillon Griffin(1), Robert Ryan(1), Calum O’Neil(1), Luke Fitzgerald (1), Dylan Walsh (2), Ryan OHiggins (1) & Kaylem Ryan (1)
U11C League Ferrybank 1 Villa B 9 Last weekend’s game was rearranged and saw the lads travel to Ferrybank on Friday night. The change in day and kick off time meant we played our first game under floodlights, which the team were excited about. We kept our winning streak going with a comfortable 9 – 1 win which keeps us in contention
In recent matches the lads have struggled to get into gear early in the match, this time those problems seem to have been ironed out. We got off to a flyer and were soon two up with goals from the left boot of Hayden Gallibert and the right of Calum O`Niell. Number three followed soon after and saw Hayden doubling his tally. By half time we were 6 – 0 up with Luke Fitzgerald notching one and Hayden (Gally) had completed his first hatrick in league football. Calum was unlucky not to add to his goal when another good finish was ruled out for off side. Things were freshened up at half time with five substitutions and one or two positional changes. The second half saw Ferrybank offer more resistance than the first and it was them who scored the first goal of the second half. From our point of view it was a poor goal to concede as there were ample chances to clear the ball which were not taken. This seemed to act as the kick the lads needed and Hayden added another which was followed by another contender for goal of the season from half time substitute Dillon Griffin. Dillon picked the ball up on the left touch line at the half way line. He raced down the touchline skipping past several defenders on his way to the by line, once he got there he cut inside another defender, drove into the box and unleashed a low hard right foot drive from the tightest of angles which beat the keeper. Another of the half time substitute’s midfielder Robert Ryan got on the score sheet for the fourth match in row with a trademark neat finish. The scoring was rounded off by man of the match Hayden Gallibert with a brave header to take his tally on the night to five. Following a tackle on the edge of the Ferrybank penalty area the ball looped in the air towards goal for what seemed like an easy take for the keeper, Hayden however had other ideas and he raced in to nod the ball over the advancing keeper.
Goal Scorers : Hayden Gallibert (5), Dillon Griffin(1), Robert Ryan(1), Calum O’Neil(1), Luke Fitzgerald (1)
Best for Villa : Hayden Gallibert.
U13A League Carrick 0 Villa 5
Back to the League this week and a tough assignment away to Carrick . The game started very evenly , with Jack Doherty of Carrick being the most prominent player on view. It took us 20 mins to shake off the cobwebs and put together our first move ,on a very tight pitch. Kenneth McEvoy , Dave Cooley , and Walter Croke all came close, before Gavin O'Donovan scored from 10 yards. This settled us and we made some good chances but only for solid defending from Conor Sheehan , Tom Mullally , Jamie Cross and Christian Cullen , and a excellent piece of goalkeeping from Brandon , it would have been 1-1 at half time. Things changed in 2nd half and Walter Dunphy put in some great tackles to keep the pressure on the Carrick Defence , Darren Finn came more into the game and we looked the more likely team to score. Walter Croke finishing off a great move to make it 2- nil. Conor Coad and Daniel Aherne came on and both scored 4-nil. Mark Walsh and Austin Gleeson replaced Conor Sheehan and Walter Dunphy for last 20 mins and both showed the depth of this squad and the current fight for places . Niall McCabe replaced Gavin and was unlucky not to score with an overhead effort before Kenneth made it 5-nil.A good 2nd half performance , with everyone putting in the hard work, well done as there are no easy games against Carrick.
Under 15 League Railway Ath 1 Villa B 4
We were never under pressure in this game despite going behind early on. After that setback, Paul Mates showed great vision to see the 'keeper off his line and beat him from 25 yards. Two excellent strikes from Kenny Patterson made it 3-1 at the break. The only goal of the second period was the goal of the game as Gracious Byavu beat four players to slot home.
The Villa Committee and Managers would like to wish all its players and families a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous and successful New Year.
