U 12 SFAI Cup Villa 3 Evergreen 1 Our U-12 team progressed to the next round of the national cup when they overcame a resilent Evergreen side in Connors Park on Saturday morning. Starting the game without some of the squad, this gave the opportunity for others to perform. We started the game brightly and controlled the game without ever causing too many problems to the opposing defence, however, as the first half went on we started to create chances and were unlucky on three occasions. We sorted some things out at half time and started to dominate the game. 5 minutes in we took the lead when Evan O Donnell scored after good work from Niall McCabe. We extended our lead when Niall McCabe headed home bravely. At this stage we took our foot off the pedal and allowed our visitors back into the game. Evergreen reduced our lead with 10 minutes to go but we responded well and Evan O Donnell scored our third with 8 minutes remaining. We saw out the game comfortably after this. Overall this was a good performance, but we must learn to keep playing for the full 60 minutes. Best for Villa were Adam Donovan, Lee Crowley, Craig Brown, David Hobbs, Evan O Donnell, Niall McCabe Special thanks to all the mothers who provided and served food to our visitors.
U14 SFAI Cup Seaview 0 Villa 5 Our U14 team also progressed to the next round of the National Cup. A good display at times out in Seaview last Saturday. 4 of the five goals came from Jonathan McEvoy, the last of which was an excellent finish. The other goal came from David Cooley on the left wing. The team had to work hard against a strong physical Seaview team with Gavin O Donovan putting in a very good game and was unfortunate to come off injured. We wish Gavin a speedy recovery. The next round is another away game to either Deen Celtic or St Michaels in two weeks time.
U16 SFAI Cup De La Salle 0 Villa 1
Munster Junior Cup Piltown 0 Villa 2
We progressed to the third round of the competition with a good win away to Piltown. Jimmy Barry and Glenn O'Neill scored the goals.
Under 16 League Ballinroad 4 Villa B 2
We conceded some very soft goals to find ourselves 3-0 down before goals from Brian McDonald and Kieran McGettigan got us back into contention. The home side scored again to take three vital points.
