U11 SFAI Cup 1st Round Villa 9 Ferrybank 2
Our U11A team had a comfortable win over Ferrybank in the SFAI cup first round. We played some lovely football and all the good training sessions over the past few weeks paid dividends on the pitch last weekend. We started well with goals from Tommy Power and Ryan Phillips. Ferrybank pulled a goal back with a fine effort from outside the box. We started to pass the ball well at this stage and 2 fine Colin Barry goals put us 4-1 up just before half time. We scored the goal of the game just on the stroke of half time when David Hobbs collected the ball on his own penalty spot, he released Ryan Phillips who beat 2 players and then found Aaron O' Connor with a good cross field pass and Aaron finished off a fine move with a good finish. We dominated the 2nd half with a further 3 goals from Aaron O' Connor and 1 from Ryan Phillips. A feature of the 2nd half was Aidan Purcell and Dylan Walsh making their debuts for the U11A team. Overall this was an excellent team performance which resulted in a 9-2 win but the man of the match went to Roy Butler who put in a brilliant performance at right back.
U13 SFAI Cup 1st Round Hanover Harps 1 Villa 8
We started this game very poorly and took 15mins before we produced a good move . Overhit passes, missed tackles were a major feature and it looked like we were afraid of our opposition. Eventually Gavin headed Kenneth into a good position and he finished in great style. Conor Coad scored the first of his 2 after Walter Dunphy and Danny Ahern set him up. Cooley was causing all sorts of problems with good support from Christian . Jamie and Tom controlled the defence with one exception when Hanover missed a great chance to make it 1-1 .Brandon was quick off the line on 2 occasions and by half time it was 5-0. We made some substitutions and Walter Croke scored a great diving header. Evan O Donnell ,Niall Mc Cabe and Daryl Hennessy also scored and Mark Walsh made some very good crosses . Overall it turned out easy victory but our attitude has to improve if we are to progress in this competition.
U15A League Villa 3 Ferrybank 0
A very good team performance winning comfortably – our goals coming from Jonathan McEvoy, Kevin Feely and Reece Rooney. We had to defend well and also had some good forward play throughout the game, passing at times a bit sloppy but overall a good win. Reece Rooney and Adam Potter put in 2 very fine performances on the day.
Munster Junior Cup Villa 4 St. Otterans 0
We progressed to the third round of this competition with goals from Kevin O'Brien, Stephen Murphy, Eoin Cooley and Declan Furlong.
Youth League Villa 5 Ballinroad 2
We started the game well but the visitors had the first clear chance which was brilliantly saved by Rob Bresnan. We opened the scoring through Paddy Davies and a Fergus McDonald header made it 2-0 at the break. David O'Keeffe added a third before the visitors scored to make it 3-1. Darren White and Danny Walsh made it 5-1 before Ballinroad scored a late consolation.
Academy Our schoolboy academy runs every Saturday morning in Newtown School from 9.30am to 10.45am. Boys and girls from the ages of 5 to 10 are more than welcome to come along. Parents of children interested in getting involved with helping the coaches are also very much needed and we would ask them to talk to Paul Morrissey or any of the coaches in Newtown at the training sessions.
