SFAI U-12 Cup
Villa 7 v 0 Thomastown

Our U-12 team progressed to the next round of the National cup with a comfortable
win over Thomastown in Connors Park on Saturday morning. From the start we were
bright and took control of the game early on. We dominated throughout the game working
very hard and playing some great football. We went in at the break four goals up, the goals
coming from Niall McCabe, Mark Walsh, Tadgh Whelan and Evan O Donnell. The second half
was more of the same and we added three more goals from Tadgh Whelan, Gavin Jacob and
David Hobbs Overall this was another improved performance from this squad, working very hard throughout and playing some great flowing football, but tougher tests lay ahead in the coming weeks.
Best for Villa were Craig Brown, Karim Abdou, Mark Walsh, Lee Crowley, Liam Coonagh, David Hobbs

SFAI U16 Cup
Thomastown FC 1 Villa 4

We progressed safely through to the next round of this competition with a hard fought victory
We showed our intentions early on and as we have been doing in recent matches, started very well. Both wingers, Jack O’Shea & Kevin Feely were causing problems and our first came after 6 minutes when a corner from a Jack O’Shea was whipped at pace and the home defence could only turn it into their own goal, 1-0.
We continued to dominate and doubled our lead when skipper for the day Robin Spencer fired home for his 2nd in two games, with a great strike from just inside the box, 2-0. We should have extended our lead further as we threatened every time we went forward, the best of which was a Paul Power effort which he blazed over from 6 yards.
Despite our dominance we were only two goals to the good at half-time. The second half continued in the same vain, with chances being created and not taken. The home side were thrown a lifeline after 10 minutes when a long clearance was missed by the back four and their centre forward raced through to finish well and reduce to the deficit to 2-1, which was no reflection on play.
It gave the home side a boost and they started to believe that they might get something They were a strong physical side and the challenges were not for the faint hearted but we responded and within 5 minutes any hope of a comeback were dashed when a superb run by Niall O’Sullivan saw a cross fired into the box and Jack Gaule duly obliged to maintain our 2 goal advantage, 3-1.
The game was put out of danger with 20 minutes remaining when Jack O’Shea fired home from close range following a Niall O’Sullivan corner to give us a three goal lead, 4-1.
A great all round performance from this squad. Back to the league in two weeks time and we need to carry this level of performance into our upcoming games. Many thanks to the parents who travelled and provided transport.

FAI Junior Cup
Villa 0 Ferrybank 0 (Ferrybank win 5-4 on pens)

After last season's FAI Junior Cup adventure, we exited at the first hurdle in this year's competition. We started strongly against Ferrybank with Kevin O'Brien's effort well saved by the visitor's 'keeper and Jimmy Barry unlucky to see his shot go wide. After failing to convert chances, Ferrybank came back into the game but failed to threaten the goal. The longer the game went on it was hard to see a goal coming and when extra time also proved scoreless, penalties were taken. Ian O'Sullivan, Patrick Farrell, Ian Cantwell and Stephen Murphy scored but we went out 5-4 in sudden death.

Munster Youth Cup
Tramore 1 Villa 0 (AET)

Despite playing for 110 minutes without a goal this was an entertaining game from start to finish. Chances fell to both sides with the Tramore keeper making a superb stop in the first half and our stand in 'keeper Stephen Flynn making some excellent saves. In the very last minute of extra time Tramore made the breakthrough to leave our players disappointed after a tremendous effort Well done to both sides on a hard fought, good spirited game.
