SFAI U-12 Cup Villa 4 v 0 Gorey Rangers
Our U-12 squad progressed to the next round of the national cup with a comfortable win at home to Gorey Rangers in Connors Park on Saturday morning. Our visitors started the game the brighter but we eventually played our way into the game. We created chance after chance but could find the net. We eventually went ahead when good work from Mark Walsh down our right saw a great cross finished by Niall McCabe. We continued to stay on top and create chances but went in at half time just the one goal up We started the second half much better and scored our second when Evan O Donnell produced a great finish from a tight angle when put through. We went further ahead when Niall McCabe was taken down in the penalty area after some great work, Niall converted the penalty. The fourth arrived soon after when good work from David Tyrell down the left saw him shot in over the goalkeeper head. This much improved performance was full of hard work and some great football. Best for Villa were L.Crowley, A.Gleeson, M.Walsh, N.McCabe, E.O Donnell
U15A League Bohs 3 Villa 2
A tough but very entertaining game played in Ben Wadding Park last Thursday evening. Bohs went a goal up just after a few minutes and we had to chase the game. We found it hard to break the Bohs defence down and went in 1 down at half time. We came out a different team in the second half and took the game to Bohs and an excellent free kick from Brian McDonald gave us the equaliser after 10 minutes. We took the lead from a very good individual goal by Eoin Kindlon down the right hand side after another 10 mins. We had a lot of injuries and found it hard to sustain the Bohs attack and conceded 2 goals in the last 15 mins. Our keeper Figo deserves a special mention as he made some excellent saves throughout the game.
U16A League Southend 1 Villa 1
A frustrating game and result and one that can definitely be considered as two points lost. We went into the game carrying a few injuries but this didn’t stop us starting very well and we took the game to the home side, dominating the first 15 minutes in which we created several chances, which were all blocked or scrambled away by a resolute home defence. We continued to control the game throughout the first half, but too often the final ball was poor or the build up in the final third lacked penetration. As happens quite often when a team dominates and does not take their chances, we gifted the home team a goal on the stroke of half-time, with some very sloppy defending. The second half can only be described as the most one sided half I have seen as we piled forward with attack after attack, this time though we were far more threatening, but the home team managed to hang on by all means necessary and credit has to be given to them for that. We finally equalised with 10 minutes remaining when a great ball in from Kevin Feely was headed home by Paul Power. We were camped in the Southend half for the remainder of the game and had probably four or five clear cut chances after this to seal our victory, the best of which a rasping drive from Eric Marsh from all of 30 yards, which was parried over the bar. Despite a tremendous second half effort we could not secure the victory.
We will need to be far more clinical in the weeks ahead and start converting the chances we are creating. However, we have continued our unbeaten start to the season and our next game will be a friendly this Sunday against Clonmel Town in Connors Park at 4.30pm. Training Wednesday at 5.30pm.
Under 16 League Villa B 3 Ballinroad 1
A good win, which gets us level with the leaders. We opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Danny Miles scored superbly from a free-kick. We conceded a poor equaliser before the break. Danny again got us in front when Ballinroad failed to clear a corner and Andrew Baxter made it 3-1 again from a corner.
Premier League Villa 0 Bohs 0
A hard earned point from this game. A tight first half saw few chances created. The second half saw the visitors dominate possession and some great saves were required from Cian O'Brien. Paul Omatoso had our best chance but was taken down when clear on goal.
