U11A League Bohs 1 Villa 3 Our 11A team continued their good start to the season with a well merited 3-1 win over Bohs. We totally dominated the first half and we created a lot of goal scoring chances. Aaron O Connor and Ryan Phillips both went close early on. The Bohs goalkeeper pushed Aaron O Connor in the penalty box and Tommy Power coolly slotted home the resultant penalty. From a good James Coad corner, David Hobbs scored with a very good header. With our first half dominance we should have been going in at half time with more goals scored. Bohs came out a different team after half time and the 2nd half play went from end to end. We scored our third again from David Hobbs following yet another good corner from James Coad. We had to defend well in the last 15 minutes, a Stephen Doheny goal line clearance was the highlight of our defending. Bohs pulled a goal back with 10 mins left but in truth we had enough chances to clear the ball before Bohs scored. Overall a good result against out near rivals but we have a lot of areas to improve on.
U-12 League Villa A 0 v 3 Carrick A Our U-11A team continues their disappointing start to the season when they went down badly to Carrick in Connors on Saturday morning. Out played and out fought in the first half resulted in Carrick totally dominating the half and going in at half time three goals up. In the second half we responded and dominated the half playing better football and showing a better attitude for the game. Although we had most of the possession we could not find the net to give us hope in this game. We had lots of possession and corners but could not find a way past a determined Carrick team. We need to up our level of performance for the coming games if we are to be competitive in this league. Best for Villa were C. Brown, D. Hobbs, T. Whelan, M. Walsh, D. Tyrell
U13B League Ballyduff 1 Villa 4 Our U13B team travelled to Ballyduff for their first game of the season last Saturday. The first half was very evenly contested with chances at either end but the scored remained nil all at half time. We changed our keeper at half time and put Darryl Hennessy out field and his runs down the right hand side made a big difference to the game. Ten mins into the second half Rachel Hutchinson scored our first goal, followed soon by Kevin Burke who got the second. David Tyrell scored our third and Darryl Hennessy scored the fourth direct from a corner. A good start to the season and important for us to work hard and keep the good momentum going.
Under 14 League Villa A 2 Tramore 1
A very hard game for the Under 14's. Tramore started the better team but it was an excellent shot from Eoin Kindlon that gave us the lead after 10 minutes. Our second was cooly slotted home by Jonathan McEvoy and it looked like a comfortable win was on the cards. Tramore however had other ideas and fought to get back into the game. We had some missed chances but Tramore scored from a free-kick to ensure a tight finish.
Under 15 League Kilmacthomas 3 Villa B 0
We battled well against a very good Kilmacthomas side. It was only in the last ten minutes that the goals came. Karl Byrne on our goal made some good saves throughout and we had some dangerous moments from corners but the home side deserved their victory.
Under 16 League Villa B 9 Stradbally 2
Two hat-tricks in this game from Stephen Cleere and Brian McDonald. Other goals came from Paul Connolly, Robbie Lannon and a superb effort on the final whistle from Danny Miles.
Premier League Villa 1 Carrick 1 Villa 1 Dungarvan 2
On Wednesday we shared the points with Carrick following an entertaining game. Paul Omatoso gave us an early lead and was unlucky not to score again later in the first half. On the stroke of half-time Des Mullett missed the top corner by inches with a free-kick. Carrick had the better of the second half and levelled late in the game. On Sunday we conceded an early goal to Dungarvan and it stayed that way until half-time despite some chances on both sides. We dominated second half possession and had some good chances to level but were caught on the break for Dungarvan's second. Jimmy Barry pulled a goal back but we could not force an equaliser.
New Villa Shop
We will not be taking specific orders for Villa merchandising this year, instead we will be running a shop in the Clubhouse every month. We will have all our existing and new stock on display which will give all players an opportunity to try on gear for fitting purposes. The shop will run all through the year so you can now buy as you need. The shop is due to open on Saturday 22nd September – to be confirmed.
