Under 13 SFAI Cup Semi Final Villa 2 Crumlin Utd 3

A tremendous performance from our Under 13’s in the SFAI Cup semi-final saw us just fall short against a physically strong Crumlin side. Crumlin started well but we were solid in defence. The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when a looping cross made found the corner of the net. Credit to our team as we fought back and levelled on 17 minutes when Eoin Kindlon’s shot was parried by the ‘keeper and Jonathan McEvoy was on hand to head home. Five minutes later we took the lead when Johnny McCarthy’s low drive from the edge of the box hit the net to give us a 2-1 half-time lead. Crumlin came out strongly in the second half and scored twice in a ten minute period early in the second half. Despite that we tried valiantly to equalise but the visitors held firm. On the day, the whole team performed superbly and everyone can be very proud of coming so close in a National Cup semi final.

Team : Marc Weldon, Conn Kirby, Jamie Cross, Mark Hobbs, Adam Potter, Eoin Kindlon, Barry Power, Johnny McCarthy, Kenneth McEvoy, Conor Coad, Jonathan McEvoy. Subs used : Kevin Flynn, Aaron Galibert.

Thank You

Many thanks again to the parents who provided the refreshments for both teams prior to and after the game. It is very much appreciated.

Premier Cup Villa 1 Wat. Crystal 0

This was one of our best performances of the season as we progressed to the semi final of the Ardagh Cup. We dominated the game from the start and were unlucky not to have the lead at half-time as a number of chances slipped by. The deadlock was broken six minutes into the second half when Rory Walsh finished after good work from Ian Tilson. Both Rory and Ian saw other chances well saved by the Crystal ‘keeper but in the end we were well deserving of the win.

Youth Cup Ballinroad 1 Villa 1 (Villa win 6-5 on pens)

The youths made harder work of this than was necessary missing a number of chances before gifting the home side the lead ten minutes into the second half. We levelled late in the game through an excellent strike from Danny Walsh to take the game to penalties. We scored all our penalties with Fergus McDonald, Tadhg Kirby, David O’Keeffe, Danny Walsh, Neil Hennebry and Conor O’Neill on target, while Conor saved their first sudden death kick.

Under 11 League Hibs A 0 Villa A 2

Our U-11A team recorded a hard fought victory when they travelled the short distance to play Hibs on Wednesday evening last. On a very warm evening and on a bumpy pitch Hibs started the better and controlled the game, the Villa boys having to defend strongly and fight for every piece of possession. The game continued this way until half time. After a good talk at half time the second half saw us come more into the game and we started to play better football. We took the lead when Tommy Power came from the right wing to meet a Gavin Jacob cross, Tommy controlled the ball and finished to the bottom corner with a low left foot shot.
We continued to push forward and with the introduction of fresh legs we got stronger and looked more threatening. We increased our lead when Luke Kelly pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and finished with his right foot. We could have increased our lead before the end but were happy to come away with a hard fought win.
Best for Villa were Austin Gleeson, Adam Donovan, Craig Brown, Tagh Whelan, David Hobbs, Sean Murphy
Under 11 League Villa B 1 Abbeyside 2

We suffered our first league defeat in this game. We played some fantastic football in the first half hitting the crossbar on two occasions but still went in at half time a goal down after failing to defend a corner. In the second half we continued to put Abbeyside under pressure and equalised through Dylan McGuire. With ten minutes left, Abbeyside caught us on the break to score what proved to be the winner.

Derek, Noel and Pat would like to thank Liam Fraser of Waterford United for arranging a training session with Waterford United’s David Breen last week. We hope that David’s words of encouragement will carry our lads through the remaining three games of the season.

Under 11 League Villa C 1 Southend B 1

Playing against the wind we went a goal behind in the first half. We levelled after 15 minutes of the second half with Arman Gashi finding the net. Best for Villa B. Cunningham, L. Power, R. O’Higgins and N. Ryan.
