Season Review - April

FAI SENIOR CUP 1st Round Cherry Orchard 2 Villa 0

We started brightly creating the better chances during the first half with Ian Tilson unlucky with two efforts. We were unfortunate to lose keeper Cian O Brien with a nastly injury mid-way through the first half but we maintained our dominance of the game Cherry Orchard had the advantage of the wind in the second half and made the breakthrough after 15 mins of the half. We had to chase the game late on and the Orchard scored their second late in the game.

UNDER 13 SFAI CUP QUARTER FINAL Villa 3 Kingdom Boys 1

Our U13 team played Kingdom Boys from Kerry in the last eight of the National Cup last Saturday afternoon in Connors Park. We started the game with a strong breeze against us in the first half and never really threatened the Kerry net, taking our time to settle into the game. The visitors went a goal up in the first half when their centre half scored a header from a corner kick.
We came out a different team in the second half and equalised after 5 minutes when Kenneth McEvoy made a very good run down the left hand side and crossed the ball into the box where Conor Coad took a shot which the keeper parried and Kenneths brother Jonathon was first to react and slotted the ball into the net. Shortly afterwards a cross from Eoin Kindlon reached the head of Kenneth Mc Evoy and the youngster headed a looping shot over the Kerry keeper, putting us ahead for the first time in the game. Our confidence was high now and we did create some other chances, but it has to be said that Kingdom Boys did hit our crossbar twice. With 5 minutes to go Barry Power passed a good through ball for our forward Aaron Galibert and the natural left legged striker cooly slotted the ball into the net with his right foot. We had to battle hard for the final few minutes and with great defensive play from our back four of Con Kirby, Adam Potter, Mark Hobbs (Capt) and Jamie Cross and from our midfield of Barry Power and Johnny Mc Carthy together with two very fine saves from our keeper Marc Weldon, we managed to keep the ball out of the Villa net.
It would only be fair to say that each player played his part in this great victory but special mention has to go to Adam Potter who was outstanding in the second half of the game displaying some excellent defending.
