FAI JUNIOR CUP SEMI FINAL Villa 1 St. John Bosco 1 (St. John Bosco won on pens)
Heartbreak for our Premier team as we made our exit from the FAI Junior Cup at the semi final stage. We had the better of the possession throughout but couldn't make a breakthrough against a resiliant defence. It took a piece of magic from Kevin O'Brien to break the deadlock on 65 minutes, when he shot from 30 yards to score. Within minutes Bosco had a player sent off and then equalised when we failed to deal properly with a corner. Normal time ended 1-1 and there was no further score during an injury hit extra time, although we had a chance to snatch it at the end. Penalties were taken and it is Bosco who go through to the final. Well done to the players and management on giving us a terrific journey in the competition.
UNDER 11 SFAI CUP Villa 1 Malahide 6
Our U11 team made their exit from the National Cup last weekend when they hosted a very strong and excellent side from the capital. It started off a close encounter and we kept it level for 15 minutes, but the Dublin outfit took the lead with a well worked goal. We conceded a second shortly afterwards and our young side battled as hard as they could but found it very difficult to contain the skill and movement of the Malahide boys. They went on to score another two in the first half. A David Tyrell goal gave us a glimmer of hope and we played well in the second half but it wasn’t to be our day.
