U-11A League Villa A 3 v 3 Seaview
Our U-11A team fought out a thrilling draw away to Seaview on Wednesday last. On a great night for football we started the game strongly and dominated early on. This domination paid off when we took the lead, Niall McCabe finishing well after being put through We extended out lead when a powerfully driven cross from Tommy Power was deflected into his own net by a defender. We struck the bar twice after this but went 3 up when Niall McCabe finished well from close range. All looked good at this stage but some sloppy defending just on half time allow the home side to pull a goal back. The second half was a completely different story with Seaview staging a great comeback. 10 minutes into the second half confusion at the back allowed the home side to score and get within one goal. They mounted a lot of pressure on us and were rewarded when they scored the equaliser. The game after this was end to end with both sides having chances to win the game. In the end, after being three goals up, we came away with a hard fought point. Overall we must learn to play for the full game and not take our foot off the pedal, although, great credit must go to Seaview. Best for Villa were Austin Gleeson, Niall McCabe, Evan O Donnell, James O Neill, Liam Coonagh
Under 11C League (Villa Champions) Railway 2 Villa B 3
The B team ended their season with a hard fought victory against Railway. Even though we had the league won since Wednesday due to other results we went out on Saturday with the right attitude and played a lovely passing game from the start. After twenty minutes we were two goals up through a fantastic strike from Colin Barry and Jordan Mercer's goal. Railway pulled one back before half time. Mid way through the second half Joey Duggan gave us back our two goal cushion. Railway still didn't stop and scored again. Overall a great season was had and Derek, Noel and Pat would like to thank the sixteen players in our panel and also to the parents who helped us with transport and support during the season.
U12A League Villa 3 Bohs 0
A vital league game played in Connors Park last Saturday morning under intense heat. It took us most of the first half to settle into the game and we went one up with 10 minutes to go in the first half when Gavin O Donovan scored from a fine free kick from 30 yards out. Gavin scored our 2nd also from a Kenneth McEvoy cross and Kenneth scored the 3rd with a rocket of a shot which gave the Bohs keeper no chance whatsoever. We did have a couple of other chances but failed to convert and played some nice football at times. This keeps us in contention at the top of the table and these were a vital three points to attain at this point of the season.
Youth Cup Semi Final Villa 3 Tramore B 1
Well done to our Youth team who progressed to the final of the Youth Cup when they defeated Tramore B in fine style. Our scorers were Neil Hennebry, Eoin Mullins and Tom Condon Best for Villa were Keith Cooney at right full back and a great display by Tadgh Kirby in midfield. Hopefully Paddy’s injury is not too serious and that he will be back for the final when we face Bohs.
4th Division Cup St Josephs 2 Villa 2 (Josephs won 5-4 on pens)
Our 4th division team were unfortunate in the Cup final last weekend when they were defeated by St Josephs but it had to go to penalties to decide the winner. Josephs went 2 up in the first half but we pulled 2 back in the 2nd half to take the game to extra time in which there was no score and Josephs ran out the eventual winners.
Summer Camp The Villa Summer Camp will be held in Connors Park on Monday 2nd July to Friday 6th. Forms will be issued to players over the next week or so and if you have any queries please contact Neil Kelly at 087-2337112.
