U-11A League Villa A 5 Southend 1
Our U-11A team produced a great performance when they overcame a strong Southend outfit in Connors Park on Tuesday evening. We started the game very strongly and dominated the early play, this pressure being rewarded when Niall McCabe flicked the ball over the defenders head in the penalty box before firing home a brilliant volley We continued to dominate and went further ahead when Karim Abdou superbly headed home a Tommy Power left wing corner. Playing some great football we kept the pressure on the extended our lead when Evan O Donnell got on the end of a Tommy Power cross to finish at the far post. The second half continued in the same manner as the first and we made it four when David Hobbs brilliantly finished at the near post after a great run and cross from Evan O Donnell. Southend pulled one back from the penalty spot but we responded when Luke Kelly picked the ball up on half way and ran at the Southend defence before slotting past the advancing goalkeeper. Overall this was a great performance from all the lads full of had work and good football. Best for Villa were Tagh Whelan, Karim Abdou, Evan O Donnell, Tommy Power, Liam Coonagh& David Tyrell.
U13A Cup Semi Final Bohs 2 Villa 4
Arguably one of the best schoolboy matches played this year between 2 very fine sides with end to end football played all through the first half. The game was played at a very high tempo in extreme heat in Wadding Park last Thursday evening but provided excellent entertainment and top class football. There was nothing between the 2 sides but Bohs were the first to score, but we showed great character and before long Jonathan McEvoy scored his first of 4 goals to level the scoreline. We went ahead shortly afterwards and Bohs equalised leaving the score a very fair 2 all at half time. In the second half it was Villa who kept up the tempo and dominated right through the rest of the game adding 2 more goals and giving one of the best performances of the season. Our goals came from some excellent team play with the midfield of Johnny McCarthy and Conor Coad tackling and spraying the ball for our two pacy wingers of Eoin Kindlon and Kenneth McEvoy who worked tirelessly for the whole game. Some very good link up play with our 2 strikers of Aaron Galibert and Jonathan McEvoy lead to 2 of the goals. It had to be a great effort from our back 4 of Mark Hobbs, Barry Power, Jamie Cross and in particular Adam Potter who had an outstanding game to keep the Bohs attackers at bay, and they did just that - backed up with our very reliable keeper Marc Weldon when called into play made some very good saves. A brilliant display on the night and we now face Southend in the final the schedule for which has not yet been fixed.
U14 Cup Final Villa 3 Bohs 0
Having already won the U14A League a couple of weeks ago, our U14 team added the U14 Cup giving them a very well deserved double victory for the season. This team have been unbeaten all year and from all accounts finished off their campaign with an excellent win over Bohs on Saturday last in Tramore. This game produced some great end to end football but Villa dominated the first half scoring the 3 goals within the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately Kevin Feeley had to come off injured with a broken wrist and we wish Kevin a speedy recovery. Bohs did come more into the game in the 2nd half but we could have added to our tally with some fine chances. Our goals came from Jonathan McEvoy, Reece Rooney and Stephen o Keeffe. Well done to all the players and to managers Martin Robinson and Eoin Tubritt on a very successful season.
Premier Cup Semi Final Villa 0 Ferrybank 3
We conceded after two minutes of this game and faced an uphill battle after that. Ferrybank scored twice more in the first half and despite a valiant effort we couldn't make the breakthrough. This game completes the Premier season - a season which will be remembered for the tremendous run in the FAI Junior Cup Well done to the players and management for providing such superb entertainment during the season.
Kennedy Cup
Best wishes to the players and management of the Kennedy Cup squad who travel to Limerick next week. We are represented by Eoin Kindlon, Jonathan McEvoy, Kenneth McEvoy, Adam Potter and Marc Weldon.
Development Squads
We were well represented on the Under 14 and Under 15 squads which qualified for the semi-finals next weekend Under 14 we had Josh Byrne, Jack Gaule, Reece Rooney and Kevin Feely while Under 15 we had Rob Bresnan, Robin Spencer, Seamus Byrne and Niall O'Sullivan.
Best Wishes
