U14A LEAGUE WINNERS Villa 5 Hibs 1
Our U14A team won the League last Saturday in Connors Park in their second last league game of the season. This team have not been beaten all year and all credit to the players and coaches who have worked extremely hard all the way through. We were leading 3 nil in the first half with goals from Jack Gaule, Jonathon McEvoy and Reece Rooney, but left Hibs back into the game with a very well taken shot from 20 yards leaving our keeper Josh Byrne no chance. We came out guns blazing in the second half and further goals from Jack and Jonathon sealed our victory and the league title. A very good solid team performance all round. There was great celebrations after the game and fair play to Hibs who were also in the running for the title and were very gracious in defeat. It is great to see the game being played in the right spirit. We have a chance to do the double as we meet Bohs in the final of the Cup - this fixture is yet to be decided. Well done to all the players and to Managers Martin Robinson and Eoin Tubbritt. Thanks to all the parents of the players who brought the players to matches and training throughout the season. We also wish our keeper Josh Byrne all the best in his International call up in the Celtic Tri Nations on the 25th/26th May. U14A Squad : Josh Byrne, Adam Potter, Wayne Robinson, Tom O Brien, Andrew Baxter, Dean McGarry, Stephen O Keeffe, Kevin Feeley, Reece Rooney, Jonathon McEvoy, Jack Gaule, Danny Myles, Michael Chan, Colin O Brien, Aaron Fanning, Brian McDonald, Marc Weldon, Eoin Kindlon
U11A Cup De La Salle 0 Villa 0 (De La Salle won on pens)
A disappointing day for our U11A team who just couldn’t find the form they have been playing all season in the final of the cup last Friday nights in the RSC. On a very windy night we played with the wind in the first half and did create a number of chances but didn’t convert any of them. De la Salle came right back into the game in the second half and they too had their chances but fair play to our keeper Adam Donovan who pulled off a number of saves to deny the De La Salle players. The game went to extra time and it was De La Salle who played the better football and got stronger as the game went on. They were unlucky on a number of occasions and it has to be said we really didn’t look like scoring bar a couple of counter attacks. At the end of extra time when the score could have been more like a GAA scoreline with the amount of chances both teams had throughout the game, amazingly the score remained Nil all. It went to the dreaded penalty shootout and De La Salle put the ball in the net more times than Villa and justice seemed to be served as the better team won through on the day. Our penalty scorers were Tommy Power, Tadgh Whelan and Niall McCabe. Naturally we had tears of disappointment after the game but we have to learn to take our defeat as well as our victories. We still have the U11A league in our sights and are one of the teams in poll position, so lets knuckle down at training and put into practice all the things we have learned this year in our remaining league fixtures. Well done to De La Salle on their victory.
Under 11C League Villa B 5 Portlaw 0
In our last home game off the season, we had another comprehensive victory. Playing with the advantage of the slight wind we settled into the game and after ten minutes took the lead through Dylan Mc. Guire. Before half time Aaron O' Connor doubled our lead. In the second half we continued to dominate and Dylan scored again and Aaron finished off his hat trick. Overall a great squad performance with all players playing an active part. With one game left against Railway the league is now in our own hands, so we have to keep our momentum going in training till that match.
