13/5/2007 UNDER 12 CUP FINAL VILLA A 1 BOHS A 0

U-11 A League
Villa A 3 v 1 Ferrybank

Our U-11A team recorded a hard fought victory at home to Ferrybank on Wednesday evening last in Connors Park. Played in very windy conditions, we played against the wind in the first half and struggled early on. As the first half went on we gradually got into the game and created some chances.
We took the lead when a shot from Niall McCabe rebounded to Gavin Jacob who fired home from close range. After that we started to control the game but conceded a poor goal from a corner, when we failed to clear just before half time. With the wind at our backs in the second half we pushed forward, created chances but could not find the net. But with 10 minutes remaining we took the lead when Austin Gleeson fired home a great strike from a 30 yard free kick. Soon after we extended our lead when Luke Kelly laid the ball to Tadgh Whelan who scored from the edge of the area.
On a difficult night for football we fought hard for this win and well deserved it in the end.
Best for Villa were Austin Gleeson, Tadgh Whelan, Niall McCabe, David Hobbs, Sean Murphy.

Under 11C League
Villa B 8 Ballyduff 0

After drawing away to Ballyduff earlier in the season we went into the home
fixture with the right attitude and from the start we played our passing
football. Once Aaron scored our fist goal we were never in danger and in the
end we came out as comfortable winners.
The highlight of this game was five goals from Aaron O'Connor, two from
Dylan Mc. Guire and one from Robert Ryan. A great commited team
performance from all the squad. Overall another satisfying result to keep us
in contention for the league with two games to go.

U12A Cup Final
Villa 1 Bohs 0

This was always going to be a close affair and that’s exactly was it was. Played in RSC , on a windy day , football was not its best but the hard work and determination was evident in both sides. Bohs started with the wind but Villa had the first chance when Kenneth McEvoy raced pass the Bohs defence onto a tru' ball from Danny Ahern, Daniel Connolly in the Bohs goal made a fantastic save. Then Jason Keane had a great opportunity but Brandon recovered well and put in a great slide tackle to deny him. Bohs had 2 chances from long range frees by Mark McManus but Villa defence Jamie Cross, Christian Cullen, Walter Dunphy , and Austin Gleeson stood firm, indeed Austin was very close with a super header that shaved the post. We had 2/3 half chances but so had Bohs . Both defences on top with Tim O'Sullivan working hard for Bohs to stop Darren , Danny and Kenny . The middle of the field was stalemate with Dave Cooley, Gavin O'Donovan ,and Conor Coad ,being matched by Conor McArdle, Jack Hale and Stocks McLawerence. Half time nil-nil but we knew the second half we could only improve. From the kick off we used the wind but more importantly we passed the ball a bit better. Dave Cooley getting in some great crosses , Conor and Gavin winning the ball and keeping pressure on the Bohs defence and Kenneth attacking with more purpose . Darren Finn was unlucky on 2 occasions while under pressure from his marker , Danny tormented the defence with some great runs and lays offs but despite all the pressure and missed chances it remained nil-nil. A great move involving all midfielders and lay back saw Gavin hit a screamer just wide , then Conor played a great ball wide and a foul on Cooley gave us a free on the corner of the Bohs box. Kenneth McEvoy lined up and hit a super free into the bottom corner and the Villa supporters went wild still 15mins left and Bohs upped their game . Walter Croke and Tom Mullally came on for the injured Darren Finn & Austin Gleeson and immediately had an impact Tom marking the centre forward and 'Crokey' showing some deft touches and one great pass across the box that should have resulted in goal number 2 , then we hit the post , had another scrambled off the line . Bohs were desperate and shoved their big players up, in the last minute , they got a dubious free kick on the halfway line and the ball sneaked through our defence , just when it looked like Bohs would steal an equaliser, Jamie cross made a brilliant interception ,out to Christian and we played the ball out of danger Then at last the final whistle and a charge onto the pitch from all the squad . Special praise to Conor Sheahan , Tadhg Whelan , Aaron O Connor, Craig Browne , Stephen Doheny, and especially to Larry O Donovan, Eddie Widger and Kenneth McEvoy Snr for the time and effort put into the training and coaching sessions. Last but not least Bohs , it was a hard battle but there wasn't one bad foul/tackle and the game was played in a good spirited manner.

U14A Cup
Our U14’s defeated Ballinroad 5-1 in the Cup quarter final on Thursday last and went on to defeat Carrick 8-1 in the Semi Final on Saturday. Looking forward to meeting Bohs in the final.
Also they play a big game next Saturday against Hibs for the League - this will be played in Connors Park on Saturday morning.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Under 14 goalkeeper Josh Byrne who has been selected for the Rep. of Ireland Under 14 team who play a tri-nations tournament against Wales and Northern Ireland later in the month. This is a fitting reward for Josh’s efforts over the season.

Under 14 League Ferrybank 3 Villa B 1

We started well in this game and had the better of the early exchanges. Ferrybank took the lead after 20 minutes but this was levelled when Kevin Curran chased down a ball and slotted home the equaliser. Ferrybank regained the lead early in the second half but we played well and created some good chances during the half.

Under 14 League Villa B 1 Ferrybank 4

We also played the return game this week and again Ferrybank took the points. Ferrybank took a 2-0 first half lead before Kenny Patterson’s excellent run forced a penalty which Kenny converted himself. We again had some good possession in this game but failed to find the finishes.

Premier League Johnville 2 Villa 0

A disappointing result away to Johnville as we conceded a couple of soft goals and just couldn’t make a breakthrough at the other end.

Premier League Villa 2 Wat. Crystal 2

An even first half ended with us a goal down as we conceded from a corner just on half-time. Our equaliser came from goalkeeper Cian McDonagh as his long clearance bounced into the top corner. We took the lead through an excellent strike from Eric O’Connor but Crystal came back to level matters before the end.
